He joined the University of Texas at Arlington faculty in 1975 as an Associate Professor and member of the Graduate Faculty in the School of Architecture. Boswell earned his Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) from The University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and his Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) with a focus in Urban Design from the University of Colorado in 1972. Over his extensive career spanning more than four decades, he has been based in office ARCH 115, reachable by phone at 817-272-2801.
Boswell has made significant contributions to architectural education and scholarship at UTA. He taught courses such as ARCH 2552: Basic Design & Drawing II, recommending texts including 'Towards a New Architecture' by Le Corbusier, 'Architecture: Form, Space, & Order' by Francis D.K. Ching, and 'Experiencing Architecture' by Steen Eiler Rasmussen. In 1994, he co-authored 'Recent Archives' with the School of Architecture and Clifford W. Bourland, a publication stemming from a 1991 initiative by graduate students, faculty, and administration. This work compiles outstanding student design projects from the preceding five years (1989-1994) that survived archival loss, supplemented by critiques from practicing architects evaluating the school, projects, and architectural education globally. The publication serves as a reference for students and educators while inviting external critical review. Boswell sponsored UTA students in the Fifth Annual Urban Housing International Student Design Competition, securing second place in the Asia, Australia, and Oceania category. His work appeared in the '12 Houses' exhibition highlighting innovative residential design by local architects. For his dedicated service, Boswell received the CAPPA Stars in Recognition of Outstanding Service award at the end-of-year celebration. His contributions are documented in the UTA School of Architecture Faculty Publications repository on MavMatrix.
