Dr Bernard Gan is a Senior Lecturer in International Business and Asian Studies in the Department of Management at the Griffith Business School, Griffith University. He possesses a PhD in Organisation and Management from the University of New South Wales, a Master of Economics (MEc), Bachelor of Economics (Honours) (BEc Hons), and Diploma in Education and Research (DipER). Gan is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), reflecting his commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Throughout his career at Griffith University, he has held roles such as International Lead in the Department of Management and contributes to the Griffith Asia Institute as one of its researchers. Previously, he served as First Year Coordinator for international business programs.
In his teaching, Dr Gan convenes and delivers courses pivotal to business education, including 1005IBA Introduction to International Business, 1009GBS Grand Challenges for Business, 7125IBA Engaging with International Business, and 2030IBA Global Business. These courses equip students with essential knowledge in global business dynamics and contemporary challenges. Dr Gan's research portfolio encompasses higher education, employment relations, and comparative East Asian business studies. His scholarly output includes several peer-reviewed journal articles. Key publications are: "The double-edged sword of narcissism: influences of university students' grandiose and vulnerable narcissism on entrepreneurial intention" (Asia Pacific Journal of Management, 2025, co-authored with T. Lee et al.); "The concepts of sustainability value and the application of big data analysis in university students using the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) model" (2024, co-authored with S.F. Chou et al.); "Comparison of localized and foreign restaurant brands for customer satisfaction using Kano model and IPA" (2022, co-authored with C.H. Liu et al.); "China's Employment Contract Law: Does it deliver employment security?" (The Economic and Labour Relations Review, 2019, co-authored with F. Wang et al.); "Analysis of the Tourism Academy Network in Taiwan" (Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, 2014, co-authored); and "How quality determines customer satisfaction: a case study on restaurant service" (The TQM Journal, 2015, co-authored with C.H. Liu et al.). Additionally, he supervises postgraduate research students in areas such as tourism management and sustainability.
