Associate Professor Bella Butler is affiliated with the School of Management and Marketing in the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. Her research specializations include business strategy, board networks, coopetition in networks, firms' dynamic capabilities, management of innovations, and network strategy. She also focuses on strategic management, innovation, entrepreneurship, business development, organizational change, corporate governance, and social capital. An internationally recognised expert in business strategy and leadership education, she brings over 30 years of experience in the tertiary sector. She coordinates the Master of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Master of Governance and Leadership programs, and serves as Course Lead for the Master of Corporate Governance and Leadership. Additionally, she co-designed Curtin’s Master of Leadership and Governance and pioneered innovative teaching tools such as the simulation-powered Management HQ. She has co-authored leading textbooks on strategic management.
Bella Butler's contributions have been honored with the 2023 Curtin Provost Fellowship, recognizing her leadership in teaching and governance as part of a program developing skills for senior academic women. In 2010, she received the Curtin Student Guild Excellence in Teaching Award for Postgraduate Coursework Lecturer/Tutor. She serves on the Editorial Review Board of Industrial Marketing Management and is a member of Curtin’s MBA and Executive Education Advisory Board. Her scholarly impact is evidenced by approximately 390 citations. Key publications include "Facilitating open innovation processes through network orchestration mechanisms" (2021), "Changes within activity patterns through network tensions" (2020), "Developing dynamic capabilities to survive a crisis: Tourism organizations' responses to continued turbulence in Libya" (2019), "How does top management team composition matter for continual growth? Reinvestigating Penrose’s growth theory through the lens of upper echelons theory" (2018), "Industry Sponsored Start-up Hubs: Cultivating Innovation Ecosystems" (2017), and "Modelling the impact of environmental and organizational determinants on green supply chain innovation and performance" (2013). She holds a PhD and GAICD.
