Dr. Aysin Dedekorkut-Howes, MPIA, FHEA, is an award-winning Senior Lecturer in urban and environmental planning at Griffith University’s School of Engineering and Built Environment. She serves as Discipline Head for Architecture, Industrial Design, and Planning, and as Program Director for Urban and Environmental Planning. With over thirty years of teaching and research experience across the United States, Türkiye, and Australia, she has held her Senior Lecturer position at Griffith University since July 2008. Her academic background includes a PhD from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida State University, a Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP), and a Bachelor of City Planning.
Dr. Dedekorkut-Howes specializes in climate change adaptation, urban resilience, regional planning, and growth management, with her work garnering over 2,879 citations on Google Scholar. Key publications include “A review of adaptive responses to sea level rise and coastal erosion in developed countries” (2020), “Under pressure: Factors shaping urban greenspace provision in a mid-sized, rapidly expanding Sunbelt city” (2020, cited 63 times), “Planning for a different kind of sea change: lessons from Australia for sea level rise and coastal flooding” (2021, cited 54 times), “Two decades of planning for earthquake resilience in Türkiye’s metropolises” (2020), and “Environmental Sustainability: A Case of Policy Implementation Failure?” (2017, cited 431 times).
