Antonio Davila is Full Professor and Director of the Department of Accounting and Control in the Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC Lausanne) at the University of Lausanne since 2021. He earned his doctorate from Harvard Business School and previously held faculty positions at IESE Business School, where he taught for 23 years as Professor of Accounting and Control and Entrepreneurship, Stanford Graduate School of Business, and Harvard Business School, including as Visiting Professor in the MBA core curriculum in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018. He has also served as visiting professor at Oxford University and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). In addition to his academic roles, Davila engages with companies ranging from startups to large multinationals as an adviser, board member, and consultant, leading to the development of numerous teaching cases.
Davila's research examines the role of management control systems in strategy implementation, innovation, and entrepreneurship, as well as professional sports management. He explores how firms identify and develop new business models in dynamic markets, design performance measurement and incentive systems, and adapt to technological changes in the sports industry. His work has appeared in top-tier journals including Academy of Management Journal, The Accounting Review, Journal of Business Venturing, Research Policy, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Review of Accounting Studies, European Accounting Review, and Accounting, Organizations and Society. Notable books include Making Innovation Work: How to Manage It, Measure It, and Profit from It (2006, co-authored), The Innovation Paradox (2015), Landscape Monitor (2017), the managerial accounting textbook Malea Fashion District (2014), and Sports Business Management (2020). These publications are highly cited in innovation management. At HEC Lausanne, he co-directs the MCCF in Anthropole (office 3025), supervises doctoral theses, and serves on the board of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Sports Research, delegated by the Dean of HEC.
