Anne Hungerford, Ph.D., serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She currently holds the roles of Undergraduate Coordinator, Assistant Department Chair, and Program Coordinator for the Psychology B.A. program. Recognized as a developmental psychologist, Dr. Hungerford's research interests center on early socioemotional development, self-regulation and emotion regulation, parenting, and temperament. These areas align with the department's focus on developmental and lifespan psychology, which encompasses changes in physical, motor, language, cognitive, and social behavior across the lifespan, influenced by factors such as age, gender, socioeconomic status, and culture. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on infancy, child development, advanced developmental psychology, and graduate-level developmental psychology.
Dr. Hungerford earned her Ph.D. in Psychology and M.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, along with a B.A. in Psychology from Kenyon College. Her scholarly contributions include several peer-reviewed publications. Notable works are 'Family Factors in Child Care Research' (2006, co-authored with Martha J. Cox, published in Evaluation Review), which reviews family influences in child care studies; 'The Use of Anatomically Detailed Dolls in Forensic Investigations' (2005); and 'Children's Exposure to Intimate Partner Violence: An Item Response Theory Analysis of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Subscale' (2010, co-authored with Richard L. Ogle and Caroline M. Clements, published in Journal of Family Violence). Additional research explores psychopathology and coping in survivors of intimate partner violence. Dr. Hungerford's research has been affiliated with UNCW and has contributed to discussions on child development, family dynamics, and forensic psychology applications.
