Dr. Ann McCoy serves as Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Central Missouri, a position she assumed permanently on April 1, 2025, after serving in an interim capacity since July 2024. A professor in the College of Education with expertise in mathematics education, she previously held the role of Dean of the College of Education starting in 2021, Associate Dean from 2020, Chair of the School of Teaching and Learning, and Chair of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education. McCoy joined UCM faculty in 2006 as a visiting assistant professor of mathematics education in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, later moving to the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education. She was promoted to associate professor in 2012 and full professor in 2017. Prior to her academic career, she taught for 22 years in the Clinton School District, serving as an elementary teacher, middle school mathematics teacher, and mathematics resource teacher.
McCoy earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education and Mathematics from UCM in 1983, Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from UCM in 1988, and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2011. Her research interests focus on the impact of elementary mathematics specialists on student mathematics achievement. Throughout her tenure at UCM, she has taught mathematics education courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and coordinated key programs such as mathematics education, K-12 and secondary teacher education, the elementary mathematics specialist program, and the Bachelor of Science in Education for elementary grades 1-6. In recognition of her contributions, McCoy received the James C. Kirkpatrick Excellence in Governance Award from the UCM Student Government Association in 2022, the highest student honor for outstanding public service and efforts to prepare Missouri educators. She currently chairs the Strategic Planning Committee for UCM's 2026-2031 Strategic Plan and remains involved in various College of Education initiatives.
