Conjoint Associate Professor Angus Cameron serves as Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Health Sciences (Oral Health) within the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle. A leading specialist in paediatric dentistry, he was the first to graduate in New South Wales as a specialist in this field. Cameron holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours (BDS Hons) and Master of Dental Science (MDSc) from the University of Sydney. His extensive qualifications include Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDSRCS Eng), Membership of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in Paediatric Dentistry (MRACDS Paed), Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS), Fellowship of the International College of Dentists (FICD), Fellowship of the Academy of Dentistry International (FADI), and Fellowship of the Pierre Fauchard Academy (FPFA). Over a career spanning more than 30 years at Westmead Hospital, he headed the Department of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics for over 18 years and continues as a Visiting Senior Specialist at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He previously led the Discipline of Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Sydney, where he also holds a Clinical Associate Professor appointment, alongside Conjoint Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leeds.
Cameron’s clinical expertise encompasses the management of children with dental anomalies, paediatric oral medicine and pathology, trauma, and special needs, including a specialist clinic for feeding, speech difficulties, and tongue tie. He practices predominantly in private settings on Sydney’s northern beaches and the central coast of NSW. An accomplished educator, he has lectured extensively throughout Australia and internationally. Key contributions to the literature include co-editing the Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry (5th edition, Elsevier), translated into seven languages, and authoring chapters in seven other textbooks. These works underscore his significant influence on paediatric dentistry education and practice globally. His multiple fellowships highlight his standing in the academic and professional dental community.
