Andy Nehl is a Senior Lecturer in Television and Online at Griffith Film School, Griffith University, having joined on 16 March 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law/Political Science from UNSW Australia. In his current role, Nehl teaches courses such as Foundations of Streaming Television (1729GFS), Production Design (3749GFS), Screen Business, Creative Producing for postgraduate students, and Online Documentary for undergraduates. His teaching emphasizes practical skills in screen production, drawing on deep industry knowledge to equip students for professional practice in television and online media.
Prior academic appointments include Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney School of Communication (July 2017 to February 2020) and Head of Television Department at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) (May 2000 to December 2005), where he instructed postgraduate students in television producing, directing, and writing. Nehl brings over three decades of screen industry experience as a journalist, documentary director, television producer, series producer, writer, and director, collaborating with more than a dozen production companies for broadcasters including ABC, SBS, Channel 7, Channel 10, and Foxtel’s Comedy Channel. Key productions include Buried Country (2000, director), The Chaser's War on Everything (2006), and Lawrence Leung's Choose Your Own Adventure (2008). He is affiliated with ORCID 0000-0002-6607-4390 and co-authored a policy submission on modernising Australian television regulation with Associate Professor Mark David Ryan for the government's Media Reform Green Paper. Nehl's expertise encompasses visual culture, media production, directing, and screenwriting.
