Professor Andrew Hahne is Professor of Physiotherapy and Discipline Lead for Physiotherapy in the Department of Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Prosthetics and Orthotics at La Trobe University, within the School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport. He graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) in 2000, receiving the David Myer's University Medal as the most outstanding Honours graduate in the Faculty of Health Sciences. He completed his PhD at La Trobe University in 2011, with a thesis titled "Conservative management of lumbar disc herniation with associated radiculopathy," earning the Stephen Duckett Graduate Research Prize for the most outstanding PhD thesis in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Hahne has worked as a clinical physiotherapist at Lifecare Oak Park since 2000, treating conditions including low back pain, sciatica, neck pain, sports injuries, shoulder problems, hip and knee pain. He holds an academic position at La Trobe University, where he teaches physiotherapy students and conducts research.
His research specializations include physiotherapy management of chronic low back pain using the Specific Treatment of Problems of the Spine (STOPS) approach, proximal hamstring tendinopathy, multidirectional shoulder instability, pain mechanisms, symptom trajectories, exercise prescription, and implementation in low- and middle-income countries such as Nigeria, India, and Bangladesh. He is a key member of the Low Back Research team at La Trobe University. Hahne has 87 publications with over 2,270 citations.
