Associate Professor Andrea Quagliola serves in the Discipline of Architecture at the UWA Design School, University of Western Australia, where he has held an academic position since August 2004, initially as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Visual Arts, advancing to his current role as Associate Professor. His research specializations include architectural design, architectural practice, and architectural technology, reflected in a substantial body of practice-based outputs. Quagliola is a co-founder and director of MORQ, an architecture firm established in 2001 in Rome, Italy, alongside Matteo Monteduro and Emiliano Roia. The firm, which also operates from Perth, has delivered a range of residential, commercial, and institutional projects across Western Australia, Queensland, and Italy. Prior to his full-time appointment at UWA, he collaborated on designs with spaceagency (Patroni Architects) in Fremantle, Western Australia, from 2003 to 2005, and served as Design Studio Coordinator there in 2003-2004. In Italy, he coordinated design studios and supervised honours projects at the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' from 2000 to 2002, and worked as a Design and Project Architect at NEMESI STUDIO in Rome from 1999 to 2001.
Quagliola's research portfolio comprises 56 items, predominantly 48 peer-reviewed designs co-authored with Emiliano Roia and Matteo Monteduro. Key projects include the National Memorial for Victims and Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (2023), House In City Beach (2024), Park House (2025), Further Hotel (2026), and Altana (2027), all in preparation or recent completion. Earlier notable designs encompass award-winning works such as 'Lovestory Shop': MORQ (2015), 'House in Noosa': MORQ, Boranup House: MORQ, Mini Loft in Rome (2007), LOO Flat (2008), Villa O (2023), The University of Canberra: The Concourse, Enclosed House II, and Talaiotica. Additional contributions include six other chapter contributions, one edited book or anthology, and one featured article. Through his dual roles in academia and professional practice, Quagliola contributes to teaching in architecture, interiors, and technology at UWA, emphasizing integrated design research and innovation.
