Professor Andrea Coda serves as Professor in Podiatry, Head of Discipline, and Program Convenor for Podiatry within the School of Health Sciences, College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He earned his PhD and Bachelor of Science with Honours in Podiatry from Queen Margaret University in Scotland, where his doctoral research involved a multi-centre randomised controlled trial on the management of children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. From 2008 to 2013, he worked as a Podiatry Lecturer at Queen Margaret University, United Kingdom. Coda brings over 19 years of international clinical experience in managing lower limb conditions across all age groups, gained in Australia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, and India.
In addition to his primary roles, Coda is a Senior Researcher at the Hunter Medical Research Institute, Honorary Allied Health Clinical Academic Conjoint with Hunter New England Local Health District, International Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Manresa in Spain, Fellow at CIFAL Newcastle of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Affiliate of the Central Coast Research Institute, Elected Member of the University of Newcastle Academic Senate representing the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing since 2022, and AHPRA Professional Member for the Podiatry Council of New South Wales since 2022. An Advisory Committee Member for the Catalan Government Ministry of Research and Scientific Health Innovation, he is also a founding member of the Australian Paediatric Podiatry group. His research specializations include the translation of innovative digital health solutions and AI-enabled technologies for real-time monitoring of pain, medication adherence, physical activity, wound management, and chronic disease outcomes, alongside paediatric podiatry, biomechanics, gait analysis, sports injuries, orthoses manufacturing, and evidence-based podiatric medicine. His contributions have informed policy development for the European Pain Federation in digital health, with citations in World Health Organization reports on digital health, multiple Cochrane Reviews, and assessments by the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health. Key publications include the book Foot orthoses in children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) (2015). Coda has earned awards such as the University of Newcastle Industry Engagement Excellence Award (2019), HMRI Impact and Translation Award (2021), Government REDI Fellowship for MedTech Product Development (2021), European Rheumatology Congress Health Professionals Research Award (2022), Finalist for Employability Excellence Award (2024), and Finalist for Clinical Leadership and Engagement Award (2025).
