Professor Alister Page is a Professor in the Discipline of Chemistry within the School of Environmental and Life Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He earned his Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Mathematics, Bachelor of Science (Honours), and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Newcastle. After completing his PhD, he undertook postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Newcastle and Kyoto University from 2009 to 2012. In 2013, he was appointed Lecturer in Chemistry at the University of Newcastle, advancing to Senior Lecturer from 2016 to 2018, Associate Professor from 2019 to 2021, and Professor since 2022. During his tenure, he served as Head of Discipline of Chemistry in 2020 and Assistant Dean Research for the College of Engineering, Science and Environment from 2020 to 2021.
Alister Page's research employs non-equilibrium molecular dynamics and quantum chemical methods to investigate chemical phenomena, with key interests in nanoscale self-assembly processes, carbon and inorganic nanomaterial nucleation and growth, computational chemistry and machine learning, deep eutectic solvents and ionic liquids, and specific ion and Hofmeister effects. His efforts have attracted more than $3.8 million in competitive research funding, yielding two books—'Boron Nitride Nanomaterials: Properties, Fabrication, and Applications' (2022) and 'Ab Initio Rovibrational Spectroscopy: Theory and Applications' (2009)—two book chapters, and over 120 internationally peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. Prominent works include 'Atomistic Mechanism of Carbon Nanostructure Self-Assembly as Predicted by QM/MD Simulations' (2012) and 'Mechanisms of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Nucleation, Growth and Chirality-Control: Insights from QM/MD Simulations' (2011). He has received the Australian Academy of Sciences Rod Rickards Fellowship (2019), Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering Australia-China Young Scientists Exchange Program Award (2018), OzCarbon Early Career Researcher Presentation Award (2014), and University of Newcastle NewStar award. Page contributes to the editorial board of Chemical Data Collections (Elsevier) and has served on those of Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Chemistry, and Frontiers in Materials. His research has appeared on the covers of Accounts of Chemical Research, Chemical Science, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, Journal of Physical Chemistry A/C, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, ChemPhysChem, ChemNanoMat, and Journal of Computational Chemistry.
