Alex Lopes serves as Clinical Professor, Grant Thornton Scholar, and Associate Faculty Chair of Kelley Executive Education Programs in the Operations & Decision Technologies department at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. He earned his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002, MS from Universidade de São Paulo in 1996, and BS from Universidade Federal do Ceará in Fortaleza in 1992. His research specializations encompass online information goods, collaboration technologies, face-to-face and online social networks, and information systems educational initiatives. Lopes teaches in the MS in Information Systems program, covering topics such as Agile, Process and Automation; Capstone; and Business Applications of AI.
Lopes's career includes early roles as Business Analyst at Companhia Suzano de Papel e Celulose from 1993 to 1995 and Business Analyst and Consultant at Fundação Instituto de Administração-FEA-Universidade de São Paulo from 1995 to 1996. He was Visiting Professor at the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, in 2001-2002; Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Business from 2002 to 2009; Field Service Assistant Professor there from 2009 to 2011; and MS-IS Academic Director from 2008 to 2011. At Indiana University, he directed the Tech Consulting Workshop from 2015 to 2020. His accolades include Certified SAFe Agilist in 2018, Certified Scrum Master in 2015, Kelley Service Award in 2014, Westerbeck Junior Faculty Graduate Teaching Award in 2011, nomination for Excel Graduate Teaching Award in 2010, nomination for Ronald J. Dornoff Fellow of Teaching Excellence Award in 2008, and Best Paper Award in the Organizational Communication and Information Systems Division at the Academy of Management Meeting in 2001.
