Abhijith Anand is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He holds the position of Senior Research Fellow at the Portulans Institute in Washington, D.C. Anand earned his Ph.D. from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, M.S. and M.S. (Research) from the University of Wollongong, Australia, and B.Eng. in Electronics from Visvesvaraya Technological University, India. His doctoral research on IT capabilities and firm performance in the healthcare industry earned him the ICIS 2018 ACM SIGMIS Best Doctoral Dissertation Award and the Professors and Heads of Information Systems New Zealand (PHIS-NZ) Best Dissertation Award. Since joining the University of Arkansas, he has contributed to advancing knowledge in technology-driven value creation.
Anand's research focuses on the intersection of information technology, digital transformation, and organizational behavior, with an emphasis on the healthcare sector. He investigates how emerging technologies such as analytics and artificial intelligence create value for organizations and society, exploring topics like manager appraisals of AI investments, performance-driven search behaviors enabled by business intelligence and analytics, and the impacts of IT capabilities on agility and outcomes. His work has been published in leading journals, including Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, and MIS Quarterly Executive. Key publications include 'Manager Appraisal of Artificial Intelligence Investments' (Journal of Management Information Systems, 2024) and 'The Effects of Operational and Financial Performance Failure on BIA-Enabled Search Behaviors: A Theory of Performance-Driven Search' (Information Systems Research, 2020). Anand has received awards such as the Global Challenges Scholar Award, Pandemic Recovery Research Grant, SAS Research Fellowship, and Ports Australia Fellowship. He has collaborated with organizations including SAS Institute, Salesforce, Walmart, Westpac, Australian Tax Office, Western Union, Loyalty New Zealand, Cobb, Artemis Hospitals, and Apollo Hospitals, with his insights adopted by industry practitioners and disseminated to policymakers through whitepapers and reports.
