Rate My Professor Aaron Wilson

Aaron Wilson is Associate Professor in Literacies Education in the School of Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of Auckland. He serves as Head of School in Education and Social Practice and as Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Education and Social Work. He is also an Associate Director of the Woolf Fisher Research Centre. Wilson holds a PhD in Education from the University of Auckland awarded in 2013, a Master of Education with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland awarded in 2009, a Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) from Auckland College of Education awarded in 1995, a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English and Philosophy from the University of Waikato awarded in 1989, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy.

His academic career at the University of Auckland includes appointments as senior lecturer and associate professor, with a focus on literacies education. Research interests centre on literacies interventions, teacher professional learning and development, school improvement through data use, and approaches such as T-shaped literacy for intermediate students. He has contributed to research-practice partnerships and projects examining disciplinary literacy in secondary English classrooms. Wilson received the University of Auckland Research Excellence Award in 2015 as joint recipient for work on co-designing and co-testing the Learning Schools initiative. He maintains an active profile in academic publishing on topics including literacy project impacts on reading comprehension and secondary qualifications.
