Dr Aaron Chin is a Lecturer in the School of Human Sciences at The University of Western Australia. His academic background includes a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Western Australia, focusing on Three-Dimensional Modelling of the Upper Limb and awarded on 13 May 2009, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Exercise Physiology from Murdoch University, awarded on 10 January 2022.
Chin's research specializations include biomechanics in sports performance and rehabilitation, the application of technologies for sports and clinical biomechanics, exercise and orthopaedic rehabilitation, biomechanics for technique development and injury reduction, exercise as medicine, and orthopaedic rehabilitation. Key publications feature 'The Hidden Link in the Kinematic Chain: The Influence of the Tossing Arm on Head and Serve Kinematics in Tennis' (European Journal of Sport Science, 2025, with Newton, Girard, Chin, Reid); 'Repeated mild traumatic brain injury in female rats increases lipid peroxidation in neurons' (Experimental Brain Research, 2017, 26 citations); 'The validation of a three-dimensional ball rotation model' (Journal of Sports Engineering and Technology, 2013, 17 citations); 'Catch! Movement kinematics of two-handed catching in boys with developmental coordination disorder' (Gait & Posture, 2012, 19 citations); and 'A marker-based mean finite helical axis model to determine elbow rotation axes and kinematics in vivo' (Journal of Applied Biomechanics, 2010, 33 citations). Other works cover cricket bowling kinematics, such as 'The off-break and “doosra”: Kinematic variations of elite and sub-elite bowlers in creating ball spin in cricket bowling' (2009). His research has garnered 193 citations across 9 publications. Additionally, Chin works as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist at Hollywood Functional Rehabilitation Clinic since 2022 and received the Early Career Individual Teaching Excellence Award from the School of Human Sciences in 2023.
