Rate My Professor Justyna Miszkiewicz

Dr Justyna Miszkiewicz is an ARC Future Fellow in the School of Social Science at the University of Queensland. She holds a BSc (Hons) and a PhD in Biological Anthropology from the University of Kent, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from the same institution. Her career includes positions at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in the Netherlands, the Australian Government, the Australian National University, Imperial College London, and the University of Kent. Dr Miszkiewicz currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Anthropological Review and as an Editorial Board Member of Annals of Human Biology. She is also Vice-President of the Australasian Society for Human Biology. In 2024, she received the Linnean Society of London’s Trail-Crisp Medal for her contributions to microscopy in natural history. Her research examines how environmental and societal structures influence skeletal growth, metabolism, and health, with expertise in skeletal histology applied to bioarchaeology, biology, biomedicine, forensics, and palaeontology. She has attracted approximately 1.7 million AUD in competitive funding as principal investigator and leads the ARC Future Fellowship project on social and temporal dynamics of bone mass loss from 2025 to 2029. Key recent publications include studies on scaling relationships in human femur histology published in the Journal of Anatomy in 2026, virtual microanatomy of Neanderthal development, and rib remodelling in fossil elephants. Dr Miszkiewicz has authored over 100 works, including books, journal articles, and book chapters, and supervises PhD students on topics such as social inequality and bone health in ancient populations.
