Remuneration: Level 6 $100,354 - $107,054 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

Location: Kensington, NSW (hybrid flexible working)

Why Your Role Matters:

The Claims Officer plays a key role in a specialised team responsible for identifying, assessing, quantifying, and rectifying employee pay claims. The Claims Officer will work closely with the Claims Manager and one other Claims Officer to support the investigation of pay claims, regularly communicate with claimants, and assist in establishing methodologies to quantify claims. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and discretion.

This role also requires demonstrated experience in interpreting enterprise agreements and industrial legislation, coordinating sensitive communication with claimants, and following an investigation process. The Claims Officer will report to the Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor claims channels, conduct simple investigations, and support complex investigations.
  • Assess claims against UNSW’s obligations under its enterprise agreements, the Fair Work Act, and other applicable regulations.
  • Provide recommendations for next steps regarding substantiated and unsubstantiated claims.
  • Communicate with claimants and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all documentation, including approvals, is in place for substantiated claims.
  • Locate and communicate with terminated employee claimants and ensure receipt of updated payment details.
  • Ensure proper storage of all claim documentation, including legal decisions, in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Work closely with the Claims team and Payroll Compliance team to communicate the established methodology and request claim calculations.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant degree with experience advising on employee relations matters, including conducting investigations into pay claims, or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong consultation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to proactively develop robust solutions to problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables.
  • Ability to apply judgment, creativity, and flexibility to generate new approaches and solve complex problems.
  • High level of experience working with computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines.
