In this Laboratory Officer role, you will deliver parasitology diagnostics and provide support to the Mackinnon Project. You will gain experience across laboratory operations, fieldwork and client liaison, enhancing animal health and veterinary teaching.
What you will deliver:
- Perform parasitology diagnostic tests, including worm egg counts, and accurately collate, interpret and report results to stakeholders.
- Manage invoicing, records, consumable ordering and equipment inventory to ensure efficient Mackinnon Project and laboratory operations.
- Maintain laboratory facilities, equipment and materials, ensuring regulatory compliance, safe waste disposal and reliable diagnostic service delivery.
- Support teaching and consultancy activities, including field trips, sample collection and livestock postmortem examinations as required.
- Contribute to training and induction for staff and students in safe, effective laboratory equipment and reagent use.
You may be a great fit if:
- Hold a relevant science or veterinary degree, or equivalent combination of education, training and laboratory experience.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience with parasitology diagnostics and safe operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Apply sound knowledge of OHS, animal ethics, biosecurity and poisons regulations in daily laboratory practice.
- Deliver accurate reporting, documentation and invoicing with strong attention to detail and timely customer-focused service.
- Identify service improvement opportunities and implement efficient systems that enhance diagnostics, teaching and consultancy support.
- Work effectively in busy, changing environments, balancing autonomous tasks with collaborative team-based laboratory operations.
