Airline Transport Pilot Program Instructor
The Opportunity
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Flight Department is seeking a Part-Time Airline Transport Pilot Program Instructor to support the Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program (ATP CTP) at the Daytona Beach Campus. The Instructor Pilot (IP) delivers high-quality ground and simulator instruction designed to prepare aspiring airline pilots for ATP certification while ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and university training standards. This position plays a critical role in developing the next generation of professional aviators through advanced simulator-based training and individualized instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Simulator Instruction & Training Delivery
- Provide simulator instruction on FAA- and ERAU-required procedures and maneuvers using the CRJ-200 full-motion Level D simulator
- Operate simulator equipment and facilitate realistic flight training scenarios
- Ensure training objectives, course standards, and program requirements are met by each student
- Conduct pre- and post-simulator briefings to reinforce learning outcomes and performance expectations
- Provide individualized coaching and remediation as needed to support student success
Ground School Instruction
- Deliver classroom and ground instruction covering FAA-required ATP CTP curriculum topics
- Guide students through aircraft systems, procedures, regulations, and operational concepts
- Support student understanding of flight deck flows, checklist usage, and airline operating procedures
- Utilize advanced training technologies, including virtual reality learning tools, to enhance instruction and knowledge retention
Program Administration & Compliance
- Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials in support of ATP CTP courses
- Maintain accurate training records and documentation
- Assist with certificate issuance and completion requirements
- Ensure all training activities are conducted in accordance with FAA regulations, university policies, and program standards
- Support continuous program effectiveness through accurate record keeping and administrative oversight
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with Airplane Multi-Engine Land rating
- Current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant flight experience
- At least two years of turbojet air carrier experience as: Pilot in Command (PIC) in operations conducted under FAA Parts 91 or 135; or Pilot in Command (PIC) or Second in Command (SIC) in operations conducted under FAA Part 121
- In-depth knowledge of FAA regulations, safety requirements, and industry standards related to flight training operations
- Strong interpersonal and instructional skills with the ability to work effectively with students possessing varying levels of experience and ability
- Ability to adapt to scheduling requirements and operational changes as needed
Preferred:
- CL-65 (CRJ-200) Type Rating
- Prior experience delivering simulator-based airline training
- Experience working in collegiate aviation or professional pilot development program
