Zhe An is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Banking and Finance at Monash Business School, Monash University, a position he has held since joining the institution in 2015. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of New South Wales in 2015, along with an M.Phil. in Finance in 2011, an MCom in Banking in 2009, and a B.Bus. in Accounting in 2007. His research specializes in empirical corporate finance, encompassing financial advisors, labor, culture, information environment, international corporate finance, national culture, capital structure, stock price crash risk, and mergers and acquisitions. Zhe An teaches several courses, including BFF3651 Treasury Management, BFF3751/BFC2751 Derivatives 1, and BFF/BFC5915 Options, Futures and Risk Management. He is currently accepting PhD students and his expertise aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

(Journal of Empirical Finance, 2024, with Xin Gao, Donghui Li, and Wenxuan Xu), 'Do foreign institutional investors monitor opportunistic managerial behaviour? Evidence from real earnings management' (Accounting & Finance, 2023, with Xiaolong Gu, Chen Chen, and Donghui Li), 'Foreign institutional ownership and corporate risk-taking: international evidence' (Corporate Governance: An International Review, 2023, with Guangyong Huang and Donghui Li), and 'Inflexibility and Corporate Credit Spreads' (Review of Corporate Finance Studies, 2025, with Zhaofeng Xu, Abe de Jong, and Ying Xia). He has received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research by an Early Career Researcher (2018), Monash University Purple Letter for Outstanding Teaching Performance (2018), Best Ph.D. Paper Award at the Vietnam International Conference in Finance (2015), and Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing awards from International Review of Economics and Finance (2017) and Journal of Banking and Finance (2016). As Primary Chief Investigator, Zhe An led projects such as 'Learning from Investing: Evidence from Foreign Institutional Investors from Emerging Countries' (2020-2021) and 'Auditors Response to Clients Short Sale Exposure: International Evidence' (2016-2017). His research contributes significantly to understanding cultural, informational, and institutional influences on corporate financial behaviors and risk management.
