Associate Professor Wong Yin Onn serves as an academic in the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia. He has been associated with the school, contributing to research initiatives focused on health conditions prevalent in Malaysian populations. His involvement includes participation in events such as the CSJB Research Week 2019, where his team, including Professor Dato' Dr Khalid Abdul Kadir, Dr Ho Loon Shin, and Dr Badariah Ahmad, secured the runner-up position in the Best Completed Research Project category with a prize of RM800. The project titled 'Distribution of Gastric Carcinomas in Malaysian Population Over the Last Decade - A Multi Center Review Tract' highlighted patterns of gastric carcinomas across Malaysian demographics.
Wong Yin Onn is a co-author on several peer-reviewed publications. In 2020, he contributed to 'Vitamin E Levels in Ethnic Communities in Malaysia and Its Relation to Glucose Tolerance, Insulin Resistance and Advanced Glycation End Products: A Cross-Sectional Study,' published in Antioxidants. This study involved Geoffrey Hong Iing Chua, Sonia Chew Wen Phang, Loon Shin Ho, Uma Devi Palanisamy, and Khalid Abdul Kadir, examining vitamin E levels among ethnic groups and their links to metabolic health indicators. The same year, he co-authored 'Relationship of sociodemographic and lifestyle factors and diet habits with metabolic syndrome' in PLOS ONE, alongside Saleem Perwaiz Iqbal, Amutha Ramadas, Quek Kia Fatt, Ho Loon Shin, and Khalid Abdul Kadir. This work analyzed factors influencing metabolic syndrome in a Malaysian cohort. These contributions underscore his role in investigating nutrition, lifestyle, and chronic disease risks within diverse ethnic communities. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Universiti Malaya, as registered with the Malaysian Medical Council.
