About Yanrui

Professor Yanrui Wu serves as Professor in the Department of Economics within the UWA Business School at the University of Western Australia, where he also acts as Deputy Head and Graduate Research Coordinator. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Adelaide in 1993, MA in Development Economics from the Australian National University in 1989, MA in Economics from Nankai University in 1987, and BS in Applied Mathematics from Anhui University in 1984. His academic career at UWA spans from Lecturer (1997-1999), Senior Lecturer (2000-2003), and Associate Professor (2004-2007) to his current professorial role. Previously, he was Research Fellow at the Asia Research Centre, Murdoch University (1995-1996), and Postdoctoral Fellow in Economics at the University of Otago (1993-1994).

Prof. Wu is an economist specializing in development economics, international trade, and applied econometric modelling. His research interests include the Chinese and Asian economies, productivity analysis, economic growth, resource and environmental economics, with future focus on energy and environmental economics, innovation economics, and growth in China, India, and Indonesia. He has authored key books such as Productive Performance in Chinese Enterprises (Macmillan, 1996), China’s Consumer Revolution (Edward Elgar Publishers, 1999), The Macroeconomics of East Asian Growth (Edward Elgar Publishers, 2002), China’s Economic Growth (RoutledgeCurzon, 2004), Productivity, Efficiency and Economic Growth in China (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008), and Understanding Economic Growth in China and India (World Scientific Publishing, 2012). His scholarly articles have been published in leading journals including Energy Economics, Applied Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, Empirical Economics, China Economic Review, Economics Letters, Pacific Economic Review, and Resources Policy. Prof. Wu holds editorial positions as Associate Editor of China Economic Review, on the editorial boards of Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies, China Agricultural Economic Review, and East Asian Policy, and as General Editor of the Advances in Chinese Economic Studies book series published by Edward Elgar Publishers. He has led funded projects such as the ARC grant on Energy Efficiency, Economic Growth and the Environment in China (2010-2012, $357,000).
