Xin Deng is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in the School of Economics, College of Business and Law at Adelaide University. She earned her PhD in Economics from Monash University, along with a Master's degree and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Wuhan University in China. Her research focuses on the intersection of sustainability, diversity, and labour economics, particularly gender equality, corporate social responsibility, and the socioeconomic impacts of globalisation. As Chief Investigator, she has secured competitive grants from UN Women, the Australian Government, and private companies to tackle real-world challenges, including aviation sustainability, workplace gender equity, corporate sustainability practices, and labour-market implications of globalisation. She co-supervises PhD students, such as one on aviation decarbonisation in Australia and China, and teaches courses including ECON 2010 Economic Analysis of Business Decisions and ECON 5020 Economic Principles for Business.
Deng has published widely in high-quality peer-reviewed international journals and books. Key publications include 'Effects of green HRM practices on employee workplace green behavior: the role of psychological green climate and employee green values' (Dumont, Shen & Deng, 2017, Human Resource Management), recognised as a Web of Science Highly Cited Paper in the top 1% of Economics & Business; 'Women's bargaining power and children's schooling outcomes: evidence from Ghana' (Afoakwah, Deng & Onur, 2020, Feminist Economics); 'Employees perceptions of green HRM and non-green employee work outcomes: the social identity and stakeholder perspectives' (Shen, Dumont & Deng, 2018, Group and Organization Management); and 'Determinants of income diversification: evidence from Chinese banks' (Meng, Cavoli & Deng, 2018, Applied Economics). She has served as guest editor for special issues of China Economic Review and Journal of the Air Transport Research Society. Deng is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students and is available for media comment. Since 2018, she has been a regular commentator on finance and management issues for SBS Radio's Mandarin program, and has provided insights to ABC, SmartCompany, and China Daily, demonstrating her influence in academic and public spheres.
