Dr. William Boone serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Liberal Studies at Winston-Salem State University, with his office in Carolina Hall, Room 118, at 601 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27110. The Department of Liberal Studies, established in 1974, emphasizes interdisciplinary education under his leadership and offers the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree, the Bachelor of Arts in African and African American Studies, and minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Additionally, Dr. Boone is the Distance Learning Coordinator for Interdisciplinary Studies in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education, supporting innovative online learning initiatives.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Boone chaired the Department of English in 2019. In that capacity, he mentored undergraduate students through key university programs. He guided Jabarie Simpson, a junior English major from Savannah, Georgia, in research featured in the Faces of Undergraduate Research during spring-summer 2019, focusing on a transnational examination of social justice. This mentorship extended to the inaugural Undergraduate Social Justice Fellowships, where Simpson's project was titled 'A quest unending: A transnational examination of social justice.' Dr. Boone's long-standing commitment was recognized with a 10 Years of Service award at the 2018 faculty excellence and service ceremony, reflecting his contributions since approximately 2008. Through these appointments and activities, Dr. Boone has demonstrated dedication to faculty leadership, student development, and interdisciplinary scholarship at Winston-Salem State University.
