Wes Jenkins is the Head of Capital Works within the Property Services and Campus Development Division at the University of Otago. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Jenkins possesses over a decade of specialized experience prior to joining the university. He spent 11 years in the United Kingdom managing client accounts, production, and large-scale exhibitions in the print sector. Upon emigrating to New Zealand in 2011, he engaged in property management for three years before entering project management.
Throughout his tenure at the University of Otago, Jenkins has spearheaded several landmark capital works projects essential to the institution's infrastructure and facilities enhancement. He initiated the concept design in 2014 for the Faculty of Dentistry's new Clinical Services Building and the redevelopment of the adjacent Walsh Building, overseeing all phases from infrastructure development and construction to decant processes, client commissioning, and the precise installation of specialized dental equipment such as chairs, radiographic scanners, sterilisers, and washers. Presently, his efforts focus on finalizing the Eccles Building and assessing the feasibility of an Inter-professional Learning Centre aligned with the Health Sciences Master Plan. Additional projects under his management include the intricate dental school decant operation, the summer refurbishment of Cumberland College's Castle Wing, the establishment of the Southland study hub, and the complex strengthening and refurbishment of lecture theatres at the University of Otago Wellington campus. The Te Rangihīroa College project, in which Jenkins played a key role, earned prestigious accolades including the Aotearoa Construction Project of the Year from the Project Management Institute of New Zealand and an Excellence Award in the Multi-Unit Residential Property category from the Property Industry Awards.
