Prior to her role at the University of Otago, Wendy Houliston was Chief Executive of the Cancer Society of New Zealand, Otago and Southland Division Incorporated, serving from at least 2008 until her resignation in April 2010. During her tenure, the division managed key fundraising activities such as Relay for Life, raising a record $201,130 in 2009 despite economic challenges, and Daffodil Day in 2009, which saw strong community support. The organization also advanced patient support facilities, with new cancer units set to open in September 2008.
