About Wei
Dr Wai Wong serves as a lecturer in transportation engineering at the University of Canterbury. His research examines how data and technology can transform transportation systems to be smarter, safer and more efficient, with particular attention to big data analytics, traffic flow theory, intelligent transportation systems, connected and autonomous vehicles and cyber security. He holds a PhD and the professional qualifications of Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Dr Wong leads ongoing work on adaptive traffic signal control that utilises live data from connected and autonomous vehicles to predict arrivals at intersections and adjust signals accordingly. This approach aims to reduce travel time and address economic losses associated with urban congestion.
