Dr. Wahid Murad serves as Senior Lecturer in AU Pathways and Participation at Adelaide University, bringing 23 years of experience in higher education from institutions in Australia and Malaysia. He leads and delivers undergraduate courses including Statistical Literacy (MATH 1037), Introductory Economics and Personal Finance (ECON 1008), and postgraduate courses such as Research Design and Methods (SCIE 6800) and Fundamentals of Public Policy (POLI 5003). Previously, he held the position of Lecturer at the Adelaide Business School, University of Adelaide from 2010 to 2012. Murad's research specializations include environmental and development economics, climate change economics and management, econometric and statistical methods, economic growth, development and trade, poverty, inclusivity and wellbeing, as well as self-regulated learning and academic success in enabling pathways education. His work aligns with 16 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, addressing issues like poverty reduction, environmental degradation, and climate resilience. He has led multiple funded projects and collaborated with researchers from 22 institutions across 17 countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.
Murad's scholarly impact is evidenced by over 4,000 citations on Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science, with an h-index of 24 and i10-index of 51. His publications feature in high-impact journals such as PLOS ONE, Journal of Public Health Policy, Renewable Energy, and Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy. Key works include 'Determinants that attract and discourage foreign direct investment in GCC countries: do macroeconomic and environmental factors matter?' (PLoS One, 2024), 'Determinants of neonatal, infant and under-five mortalities: evidence from a developing country, Bangladesh' (Journal of Public Health Policy, 2023), 'The impacts of economic growth, trade openness and technological progress on renewable energy use in organization for economic co-operation and development countries' (Renewable Energy, 2020), and 'The effects of carbon emissions, rainfall, temperature, inflation, population, and unemployment on economic growth in Saudi Arabia: an ARDL investigation' (PLoS ONE, 2021). His research informs policy, cited in the UK Parliamentary Environmental Audit Committee report 'Aligning the UK’s Economic Goals with Environmental Sustainability,' the Wuppertal Institute's 2021 policy report on innovation and CO₂ mitigation, and the United Nations General Assembly’s 2014 Report of the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. Murad holds editorial roles as associate editor of the International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management and academic editor for PLOS Climate. He is eligible to co-supervise Masters and PhD students.
