About Wafaa

Professor Wafaa El Sehly serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Professor of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at Beirut Arab University. In this capacity, she leads the academic programs including the MBBCh undergraduate medical education, graduate residency training, and oversees key facilities such as the Histo-Pathology Lab, Medical Research Lab, Diagnostic Physiology Center, and Clinical Simulation Center. The Faculty of Medicine, established in 1995, operates within the Clinical Sciences department and emphasizes practical medical training and research under her administration.

Under Professor El Sehly's leadership, the Faculty of Medicine has hosted numerous scientific conferences and events to promote advancements in healthcare. Notable events include the international conference 'Advances in Medicine: Bridging Knowledge and Practice' in February 2026, the 'Safe Fasting for Diabetes Patients' conference in January 2026, the 'Trauma in Medicine' conference in May 2025, the White Coat Ceremony for 115 students in May 2025, a symposium entitled 'Malpractice in Medicine' where she presented on medical malpractice, and a workshop on neonatal resuscitation. She has also spearheaded cooperation agreements, such as the one signed with Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur in April 2025, and addressed the graduates of the twenty-first batch of specialist doctors in May 2025. Her efforts extend to public health initiatives and inter-institutional collaborations.

Professor El Sehly's research focuses on forensic medicine, toxicology, and clinical quality improvement. Her publications include 'Stillborn or liveborn? Potential diagnostic role of gross pathological findings in lungs' co-authored with Asmaa El-Banna and Rania Ali; work on improving safety in intrahospital transport for critically ill patients with M. Megahed, A. Dahroug, and N. El-Shamy; and 'Application of new Alexandria quality checklist in intensive care units in Alexandria Main University Hospital and its effect on patients' outcome' (2017) with Mohamed Megahed and Islam Hassan. Earlier affiliations include the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University, where she contributed to the ESTP congress in 2009. She holds an MD and is a member of the Lebanese Order of Physicians and the Lebanese American Medical Association.
