Vinod Singhal

Vinod Singhal is the Charles W. Brady Chair Professor of Operations Management at the Scheller College of Business, Georgia Institute of Technology, contributing to the Business & Economics faculty. He earned his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India in 1979; M.B.A. in Operations Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1981; M.S. in Operations Research from University of Rochester in 1984; and Ph.D. in Operations Management from University of Rochester in 1988. Before academia, he worked as Senior Research Scientist at General Motors Research Labs (1986-1989). Joining Georgia Tech in 1989 as Assistant Professor, he progressed to Associate Professor (1995-2001), Professor (2001-2013), Dunn Family Professor (2013-2016), and current Brady Chair (2016-present). He served as Associate Dean of MBA Programs (2007-2015), Operations Management Area Coordinator (2001-2015), and Associate Director of Center for Paper Business and Industry Studies (2000-2010).

Singhal specializes in empirical research examining the financial and economic impacts of operations decisions, with emphasis on operations strategy, supply chain risk management, and geopolitical influences. Key publications include “Bullwhip Effect and Stock Returns” with J. Wu (Production and Operations Management, 2024); “Stock Market Reaction to Global Supply Chain Disruptions from the 2018 US Government Ban on ZTE” with B. Jacobs and X. Zhan (Journal of Operations Management, 2022); “Pioneering Role of the Production and Operations Management in Promoting Empirical Research in Operations Management” with A.M. Roth (Production and Operations Management, 2022); and earlier works on supply chain disruptions and quality initiatives. He holds editorial positions as Departmental Editor of Production and Operations Management, and Associate Editor for Journal of Operations Management, Management Science, and Manufacturing and Service Operations Management. Awards include Fellow of Production and Operations Management Society (2015), Best Departmental Editor Award (POM, 2018), Management Science Meritorious Service Award (2010), Journal of Operations Management Best Associate Editor Award (2012), Georgia Power Professor of Excellence (2014), and Best Paper Award from Journal of Operations Management (2003). His research has been cited over 200 times in outlets like Business Week, The Economist, Fortune, and Financial Times, establishing his influence in the field. He has delivered over 130 academic presentations worldwide and keynotes at practitioner conferences.
