Dr Vinh To is a Senior Lecturer in English Curriculum and Pedagogy and Graduate Research Coordinator in the School of Education at the University of Tasmania. She joined the university in 2012 as a PhD candidate and completed her Doctor of Philosophy in 2015 with a thesis examining linguistic complexity in English textbooks from a functional grammar perspective. Her research focuses on educational and applied linguistics, with particular interests in English literacy, TESOL education, linguistic complexity analysis of textbooks, critical literacy practices, persuasive writing development, and the benefits of teaching Vietnamese to preschool children in Australian contexts. Dr To has contributed to advancing knowledge in student writing development and language learning through her expertise in educational linguistics and online education.

She has received a Commendation for Research Innovation and Impact from the College of Arts, Law and Education, along with multiple teaching awards recognizing her contributions to education. Her scholarly output includes numerous peer-reviewed publications such as studies on lexical density and readability in English textbooks (2013), linguistic complexity in Vietnamese textbooks (2018), and the use of grammatical metaphors in persuasive texts (2020). With over 495 citations on Google Scholar, her work influences research in functional linguistics and language education. Dr To also engages in supervision, funded projects, and service roles supporting graduate research and curriculum development at the University of Tasmania.
