Dr. Verl T. Pope is a Professor of Counseling, Chair of the Department of Professional Counseling, and the founding Program Director for the Master of Science in Counseling programs at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He holds an EdD in Counselor Education and Counseling from Idaho State University. His professional credentials include Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in Utah, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Missouri, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Idaho, National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). Prior to his current roles, Dr. Pope served as Counseling Program Chair at the Utah Campus of the University of Phoenix. He previously held the position of Professor of Counseling and Chair of the Department of Counseling, Social Work, and Leadership at Northern Kentucky University. Earlier, he taught counseling as a professor at Southeast Missouri State University. Dr. Pope has worked in both public and private agencies and has provided consultations to departments of probation and parole, juvenile offices, schools, and courts on assessment and counseling issues.
Dr. Pope possesses extensive experience in counseling program development and accreditation, continuing to consult with agencies and universities on these matters. He served for seven years on the Missouri State Committee for Professional Counselors. His contributions to the field include publications in professional journals, such as 'The Personal Characteristics of Effective Counselors: What 10 Experts Think' co-authored with William B. Kline in 1999, and chapters in edited volumes like Counselor Supervision. Dr. Pope has served as Associate Editor for The Professional Counselor journal and participated in committees for CACREP standards revision. He maintains several professional memberships and has presented at local, state, national, and international levels on topics related to counseling education, supervision, and practice.
