Dr. V. Yoganandan, also known as Yoganandan Veeran, serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Marine Science at Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. Holding a Ph.D., he has been with the department since 2011, initially as Assistant Professor. His research centers on paleoceanography, climate science, and paleoclimatology, focusing on reconstructing paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic conditions in the Eastern Arabian Sea using high-resolution marine sediment cores. He employs geochemical proxies, foraminiferal analyses, biogenic silica accumulation rates, and trace metal concentrations to study monsoonal fluctuations, marine paleoproductivity, denitrification dynamics, and climate change impacts on coastal environments, including sea-level rise effects on villages in Kanyakumari District.
Yoganandan has authored numerous publications, totaling around 77, with key works including 'Roles of sediment supply, geochemical composition and monsoon on organic matter burial along the longitudinal mud belt in the East China Sea in modern times' (Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2021; 29 citations), 'India contemplates climate change concerns after floods ravaged the coastal city of Chennai' (Ocean & Coastal Management, 2016; 25 citations), 'Temperature is a better predictor of stable carbon isotopic compositions in marine particulates than dissolved CO2 concentration' (Communications Earth & Environment, 2022; 12 citations), 'Trace metal concentrations in core sediments recovered from the Southeastern Arabian Sea: Insight into paleoenvironmental changes over the last 64,000 years' (2025), and 'Climatic Impact on Paleoproductivity During the Last 14 Kyr in the Southeastern Arabian Sea' (2024). His research has earned approximately 78 citations on ResearchGate. He has evaluated two Ph.D. theses and conducted two viva voce examinations. Additionally, he leads projects such as on Indian Paleomonsoon and environmental changes, and holds administrative positions including Director of Naan Mudhalvan Skill Development Scheme, NSS Programme Officer for BDU Unit-I, and Coordinator of the Anti-Drugs Committee.
