Always goes above and beyond for students.
Dr. V. R. Balaji serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Electronics Engineering (SENSE) at Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai Campus, a position he has held since joining the institution in June 2020. He completed his Ph.D. from Anna University, Chennai, in September 2015. His academic and research expertise centers on 2D photonics, biosensors, microwave photonics, and 2D photonic crystal device modeling. Balaji is recognized as an eligible research guide at VIT and is associated with the Centre for Healthcare Advancement, Innovation and Research (CHAIR). He has contributed to consultancy projects, including collaborations with industry partners such as ST ADVANCED, and has served as principal investigator for funded research initiatives listed in institutional reports.
Balaji's scholarly output is substantial, with numerous peer-reviewed publications advancing photonic technologies for optical communication and sensing applications. Key works include 'Photonic crystal based biosensors: an overview' published in 2022 in the ISSS Journal of Micro and Smart Systems; 'Design and optimization of photonic crystal based eight channel dense wavelength division multiplexing demultiplexer using conjugate radiant neural network' in 2017 in Optical and Quantum Electronics; 'Machine learning enabled 2D photonic crystal biosensor for early cancer detection' in 2024 in Measurement; '2D-PhC based all optical AND, OR and EX-OR logic gates with high contrast ratio operating at C band' in 2022 in Laser Physics; 'A Novel Hybrid Channel DWDM Demultiplexer Using Two Dimensional Photonic Crystals Meeting ITU Standards' in 2021 in Silicon; and 'Smart irrigation system using IoT and image processing' in 2019 in the International Journal of Engineering and Advanced Technology. These publications demonstrate his focus on innovative photonic crystal designs for demultiplexers, logic gates, and biosensors. Additionally, he has organized academic events such as webinars on multimedia and IoT, Verilog hackathons, and conferences like VICFCNT-2021, contributing to the academic community through committee roles and editorial board service.
