Dr. V. Dhilip Kumar serves as Professor and Associate Dean in the School of Computing at Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, within the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He previously held the position of Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. With more than 15 years of experience in teaching and research, his academic background includes a PhD from North Eastern Hill University, a Central University of India, a B.Tech in Information Technology, and an M.E. in Computer Science Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. He also completed a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in collaboration with the University of Suceava and Green Soft, Lasi, Romania. Dr. Kumar contributes to institutional governance as an ex-officio member of the Academic Council and participates in Board of Studies meetings for programs in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Computer Science and Engineering, and related specializations.
His research specializations encompass Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, wireless communication, Software-defined networks, and Expert Systems, with applications in healthcare diagnostics, precision agriculture, computer vision, and vehicular networks. He has published over 60 papers in Science Citation Index and Scopus-indexed journals, including IEEE Transactions, Springer, Elsevier, and Wiley. As Principal Investigator, he leads the Department of Biotechnology-funded project 'Model Climate Smart Farm to Demonstrate Precision Agriculture Technologies for Societal Upliftment of Majuli' (Rs. 58.27 Lakhs, 3 years), alongside other government initiatives in precision aquaculture and agriculture totaling Rs. 1.2 Crores utilizing IoT and Deep Learning. He supervises 7 PhD scholars and has guided 4 to completion in Machine Learning for Healthcare, Precision Agriculture, and Computer Vision. Dr. Kumar serves on editorial boards and as a reviewer for journals from Springer, Frontiers, MDPI, and IGI Global.
