Timothy DeGroot is an Associate Professor of Management in the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University, where he joined the faculty in 1998. He earned his Ph.D. in Management, specializing in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior (HR/OB), from the University of Florida in 1997, with a dissertation entitled 'The Impact of Managerial Nonverbal Cues on the Reactions of Subordinates.' He also holds an M.B.A. from Florida State University. Earlier in his career, DeGroot served as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Management Department at Midwestern State University. As a consultant to numerous firms, he has presented seminars and lectures to many groups. His primary research interests encompass employee selection, contextual job performance, and leadership, fields in which he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, including Sport Analytics, Leadership in Sport, Sport Facility Management, and Sport and Entertainment Management.
DeGroot's research has significantly influenced organizational behavior and human resource management scholarship. Key publications include the highly cited 'A meta-analysis to review organizational outcomes related to charismatic leadership' (DeGroot, Kiker, & Cross, 2000; 849 citations), 'Why visual and vocal interview cues can affect interviewers' judgments and predict job performance' (DeGroot & Motowidlo, 1999; 328 citations), 'State or trait: effects of state optimism on job-related outcomes' (Kluemper, Little, & DeGroot, 2009; 455 citations), and 'Emotion Management Ability: Predicting Task Performance, Citizenship, and Deviance' (Kluemper, DeGroot, & Choi, 2013; 208 citations).
