Tatiana Wetzler is the Professor of Accounting and Chair of the Accounting Department within the Business and Social Science Division at Pierce College, part of the Pierce College District. A proud alumna of Pierce College where she began her studies in accounting, Wetzler found inspiration in the diverse community of students and faculty. She has shared her personal reflection: "I remember sitting in the classroom at Pierce and thinking maybe one day that could be me. The diversity of the students and faculty at Pierce made me feel like there was finally a place for me. I knew I wanted to help others the way Pierce helped me." With this goal in mind, she pursued higher education at the University of Washington, completing her undergraduate degree and earning a Master of Accounting (MAcc) in 2015. Returning to her alma mater as faculty, Wetzler advanced to her leadership role as Department Chair. In 2021, the Pierce College Board granted her tenure, affirming her significant contributions to the college.
As Department Chair, Tatiana Wetzler oversees the Accounting program at Pierce College Puyallup, which delivers comprehensive training for entry-level careers and further education in accounting. The program confers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Accounting, along with stackable certificates in Accounting Office Assistant, Accounting Technology, and Bookkeeping. Students gain proficiency in computer-based accounting software, financial statement analysis, cost accounting principles, payroll processing, tax preparation fundamentals, and professional ethics. Emphasizing practical application, the curriculum supports fully online delivery, internship opportunities, and seamless credit transfer to four-year business programs. Graduates enter the workforce as bookkeepers, accounting assistants, accounts payable and receivable specialists, payroll clerks, or advance to bachelor's degrees in accounting or related business fields. Wetzler's leadership ensures the program remains responsive to industry needs, empowering students with the skills for successful careers while embodying her commitment to the transformative power of community college education.
