About Tao
Dr. Tao Bai is a Senior Lecturer in International Business at the University of Queensland Business School. His research interests encompass multinational firm strategy, non-market strategy including political activity and social activity, and the intersection between them, with a focus on emerging market multinationals as a field of research and practice. His areas of expertise include China, emerging markets, ESG, foreign operation methods, geopolitical tension, global strategy, information disclosure, mergers and acquisitions, and political connections. Dr. Bai teaches courses in international business and business analysis within the School of Business.
Dr. Bai has published extensively in top-tier academic journals. Key publications include 'Cleaning house before hosting new guests: A political path dependence model of political connection adaptation in the aftermath of anticorruption shocks' in Strategic Management Journal (2021), 'Revealed and reserved: a compensating approach of voluntary disclosure by family multinationals' in Journal of International Business Studies (2024), 'Negative performance feedback, CEO power and internationalization' in Journal of World Business (2025), 'Digital platforms, internal digitalization, and internationalization of SMEs' in Long Range Planning (2025), 'How do university-firm interactions affect firm innovation speed? The case of Chinese science-intensive SMEs' in Research Policy (2024), and 'Political connection formation and firm performance: Evidence from China' in Economic Analysis and Policy (2026).
