Dr Susie Chant is a Lecturer in Management in the School of Management, College of Business and Law at Adelaide University, where she serves as Program Coordinator and delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business ethics, management, entrepreneurship, and tourism, including BUSS 1057 Business and Society, BUSS 3053 International Management Ethics and Values, and TOUR 5009 The Business of Tourism. Her academic background includes a PhD in Food Localism from the University of Adelaide, awarded the Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence in 2016 for her thesis 'A History of Local Food in Australia 1788-2015', published online by the university. She also holds a Master's in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and a Master's in Gastronomy from the University of Adelaide, along with an earlier Master's thesis 'The Ethical Consumer-Toward a New Definition' from 2008, also published online.
Prior to her academic career, Dr Chant owned multiple award-winning hospitality businesses in South Australia and worked as a chef at renowned international venues, including Blenheim Palace in England and Grand Cayman Island in the West Indies. She remains active in the food industry as a food judge and panel chair for the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show, evaluating commercial food products. Her research interests span business ethics, cultural studies of agriculture, food and wine, entrepreneurship, ethics, food and hospitality services, food chemistry and molecular gastronomy, food properties including health benefits, and food sustainability. Notable publications include 'A History of Rice as ‘local’ food in Australia' in Locale: The Pacific Journal of Regional Food Studies (2021) and 'Teaching the Essence of Responsible Leadership' in AACSB Insights (2022). Dr Chant is a member of the Centre for Enterprise Dynamics in Global Economies (C-EDGE), which focuses on enterprising solutions for prosperity challenges, and serves as Chair of the Sustainability Working Group, promoting carbon footprint reduction. In 2021, she received the Executive Dean Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching for Program Design in the Online MBA.
