Steven Juroszek is a Professor and Co-Program Coordinator for the Undergraduate Program in the School of Architecture at Montana State University, part of the Architecture and Design faculty. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington (1991) and a Bachelor of Architecture, Cum Laude, from Montana State University (1981). Juroszek's extensive career at MSU began in 1994 as Adjunct Assistant Professor, progressing to Assistant Professor (1997-2003), Associate Professor (2003-2007), and Professor since 2007. He held leadership positions including Interim Director of the School of Architecture (2011-2015 and 2007-2009), Interim Associate Director (2007), and Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator (2000-2007). Prior to full-time at MSU, he was Adjunct Lecturer (1991-1994) and Teaching Assistant (1989-1991) at the University of Washington. Professionally, he is a licensed architect certified by NCARB (1993) and AIA member (1985-present), with experience as Architect at W. C. Muchow & Partners Inc., Denver (1982-1989), Designer/Carpenter at OSCAR-BILT-HOMES (1981-1982, 1989-1991), and Design Consultant since 1991.
Juroszek's research focuses on design communication—both digital and analog—and he is an active member of the Design Communication Association (DCA). His peer-reviewed publications include “Communicating Architectural Space Through Continuity Editing” in Representations 2004 (2005), “Hand and Digital: Expanding the Influences of a Graphics Curriculum” co-authored with Henry Sorenson in Representations 2002 (2002), “Sequence of Construction: Animated Building Systems” in Representations 2002 (2002), and “Hand AND Digital Drawing in the Architectural Curriculum” abstract in Representation 2000 (2000). He presented peer-reviewed papers at DCA biennial conferences, including 2004 at California Polytechnic State University and 2002 at Clemson University. Juroszek has garnered numerous teaching honors: MSU President's Distinguished Teaching Award (1997), Lionel Pries Prize for teaching at University of Washington (1992, co-recipient), MSU Alumni-Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Teaching Awards (1996 nominated by Roger White, 2001 nominated by Sharisse Beiswanger, 2003 nominated by Jason Davis and Wayne Sellers, 2009 nominated by Heber Slabbert, 2011 nominated by Kathryn Cheetham), School of Architecture Faculty of the Year (2010), Tau Sigma Delta Silver Medal (2008), and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society (2001). His students achieved significant success in DCA Juried Drawing Exhibitions, winning Best of Show (e.g., Timothy Stroh 2005 Graduate, Mark Ophus 2005 Undergraduate), Best of Category (e.g., Jackson St. Clair 2016 Undergraduate), and multiple other awards from 1998 to 2016, reflecting his substantial influence in architectural graphics and design education.
