Somnath Lahiri is a Professor of Strategy and International Business and Interim Chairperson of the Department of Management in the College of Business at Illinois State University. He earned his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Memphis in 2007. Before pursuing his doctorate, Lahiri completed undergraduate education in civil engineering in India and worked for 13 years in private and government sectors. Upon graduation, he joined the faculty at Illinois State University, where he progressed to full professor status in 2018. Lahiri has taught a range of undergraduate courses, including organizational strategy and international business, as well as the MBA capstone class. He has also taught courses in Panama. Additionally, he has served as research director of the College of Business and contributes to journal editorial boards.
Lahiri's research specializes in international business and management, emerging economies, and global strategy. His scholarship has produced numerous publications in leading journals, amassing significant citations and influence in the field. Key publications include "International outsourcing of services: A partnership model" co-authored with B.L. Kedia (Journal of International Management, 2007), "Institutional, cultural and industry related determinants of ownership choices in emerging market FDI acquisitions" with F.J. Lahiri has earned recognition for his contributions, including the 2013-2014 College of Business Outstanding Researcher award and the 2022 Best Reviewer Award. His work particularly illuminates dynamics of international businesses rooted in India and other emerging markets, enhancing academic understanding of global strategy and firm performance.
