Prof. Silke Buhr, Dipl.-Ingenieurin (FH) Innenarchitektur and Diplom-Szenenbildnerin, serves as Professorin für Production Design and Vizepräsidentin für Lehre & künstlerische Projekte at Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF since 2021. Prior to this appointment, she has been teaching since 2009 at Hochschule Hannover Medien und Design and Filmakademie Ludwigsburg. Throughout her career, Buhr has been responsible for production design in over 50 national and international feature films and series spanning from 1997 to 2021. Notable projects include Das Leben der Anderen (2006, dir. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck), Vier Minuten (dir. Chris Kraus), Poll (2011, dir. Chris Kraus), Die Fremde (dir. Feo Aladag), Kokowääh and Schutzengel (dir. Til Schweiger), Anleitung zum unglücklichsein (dir. Sherry Hormann), Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher (2015, dir. Baran bo Odar), Werk ohne Autor (dir. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck), Berlin Alexanderplatz (2020, dir. Burhan Qurbani), and series such as Beat and Bad Banks II.
Buhr's exceptional contributions to production design have earned her multiple prestigious awards, including the Deutscher Filmpreis for Bestes Szenenbild for Das Leben der Anderen (2006), Poll (2011), Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher (2015), and Berlin Alexanderplatz (2020). She received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for Das Leben der Anderen (2006) and an Oscar nomination for Werk ohne Autor. Additional honors include the Bayerischer Filmpreis for besondere künstlerische Leistung in Poll and the Bestes Szenenbild award at the 40th International Hofer Filmtage for Vier Minuten. As a member of the Deutsche Filmakademie, Buhr significantly influences the field through her teaching in the Szenografie program, fostering the next generation of production designers while continuing her impactful practice in film.
