About Shweta

Prof. (Dr.) Shweta Dhand is a distinguished Professor of Law and Officiating Principal at G.H.G. Institute of Law, Sidhwan Khurd, Ludhiana, Punjab, an institution affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Master of Laws (LL.M.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Law from Panjab University, Chandigarh, complemented by her qualification in UGC NET. Her academic career at G.H.G. Institute of Law commenced as an Assistant Professor in Laws, progressing to Associate Professor, and culminating in her current prominent position as Professor-cum-Officiating Principal. In this capacity, she also fulfills key administrative roles including NAAC/IQAC Coordinator, President of the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), Account Bursar, and Public Information Officer, contributing significantly to the institute's quality assurance, innovation initiatives, financial oversight, and public communications.

Prof. Dhand has made notable contributions to legal scholarship through peer-reviewed publications addressing critical issues in criminal justice and human rights. Her work includes 'Need for Reform in Criminal Justice System by Resorting to ADR Mechanism,' published in the Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovative Research (JETIR), Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2019, which examines defects in the Indian criminal justice system such as low conviction rates and delays, advocating for Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms like mediation and Lok Adalats. She also authored 'Violations against Sexual Minority in India: A Study' and co-authored 'From Custom to Crime: Examining the Judicial Trends with Special Reference to Female Genital Mutilation in India' and 'A Study on Human Rights Protection and Legal Reform against Female Genital Mutilation' in 2025, published in the International Journal of Social Sciences and Economic Research (IJSSER) and International Journal of Law Management & Humanities (IJLMH). Recognized as a Ph.D. supervisor in the Department of Laws at Panjab University, Chandigarh, she guides full-time research scholars on contemporary socio-legal topics, including 'The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Children's Rights: A Socio-Legal Study' for Gurpreet Kaur and 'Emerging Drone Threats in India: A Socio-Legal Study of Privacy, Security and Regulatory Issues' for Vijeta, both registered in 2024. Under her leadership as Officiating Principal, G.H.G. Institute of Law has organized diverse academic and extracurricular activities, such as intra-mediation competitions, orientation sessions on mock parliaments, civil moot exams, NSS special camps, anti-ragging programs, and rallies on drug eradication, alongside guest lectures like her talk on the POSH Act for creating safe workplaces.
