Shane Murphy serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Professions at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, with a focus on the Physical Therapy graduate program. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomechanics from the University of Northern Colorado in 2019 and a B.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2014. Certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Dr. Murphy specializes in lower extremity biomechanics, motor control, and clinical biomechanics. His research interests encompass balance, walking, running, and sport-specific movements, contributing to the La Crosse Institute for Movement Science (LIMS) as a scientist in motor control and biomechanics.
In his academic role, Dr. Murphy teaches courses that introduce students to scientific literature and foster critical thinking skills essential for evidence-based practice in physical therapy. He actively mentors student researchers, overseeing projects presented at university symposia such as the Research Experience for Undergraduates Conference. Dr. Murphy holds certifications as a Master Advisor, awarded in August 2024, and serves as a Friendly Face for the Pride Center, supporting inclusive campus environments. Additionally, he participates in faculty committees, including the College of Science and Health Travel and Supply Committee with a term extending to 2028, and contributes to events like the Artificial Intelligence Summit 2025. His work enhances graduate education in physical therapy through applied research initiatives and professional development opportunities at the Health Science Center.
