About Scott

Scott Hodgson is a Professor and Gaylord Family Research Professor in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma. He holds a Master of Science degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a Bachelor of Science degree from Ithaca College. Prior to his appointment at OU, Hodgson worked as a producer and director in New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., for several full-service production houses, in-house corporate video facilities, and CNN's Washington bureau. He has also worked overseas, helping to develop local programming and training personnel in Egypt, Ethiopia, Nepal, and Bangladesh. From 1988 to 2006, Hodgson served on the faculty and in administration at Southern Illinois University, where he ran a grant production unit and was executive producer of a local PBS series.

Since joining the University of Oklahoma in 2006, Scott Hodgson has been teaching in the Creative Media Production area of the Gaylord College, directing Gaylord Hall Productions, and continuing to produce and direct media projects. He has won numerous national and international awards for his production work, and in 2001 was selected by Producer magazine as one of the top 100 producers in the nation. Under his guidance, Gaylord College students have earned top honors, including Best of Competition awards at the Broadcast Education Association festival, Bronze Telly Awards, and top placements at the 2025 Heartland Emmys Student Production Awards. Hodgson has led faculty-student endeavors such as the Route 66 summer road trip in 2024 and produced the university's 2023 graduation video and 2024 commencement video. Additionally, he participated in the SLATE Conference panel on digital literacy titled 'AI as Pandora's Box: Job Killer or Cool Creative Tool.' Through his extensive industry experience and academic leadership, Hodgson bridges professional media production practices with hands-on educational training at the University of Oklahoma.
