Peak human intelligence. Peak human academic performance. And he is generous in marking exam papers.
Professor Sankar Das is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata, a position he assumed on August 1, 1996. He holds a Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A.) degree from M.M.M. Engineering College, Uttar Pradesh, awarded in 1992, and a Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Information Technology from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, in 2009. Earlier in his career, from 1992 to 1996, he served as a full-time Lecturer in Computer Science at the Institute of Computer Engineers (India), now known as part of the Techno India Group. He has also contributed as a visiting guest lecturer at the Department of Computer Science, Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous), Narendrapur. Over the course of his approximately 28-year teaching career, Das has delivered lectures in a wide array of subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Computer Organization and Architecture, Operating System Principles, System Programming using LINUX, Data Structures, Computer Networks, Database Management Systems, Computer Graphics, Object-Oriented Programming Concepts using C++, Discrete Mathematics, and Software Engineering. He is actively involved in distance education as a part-time counselor for the M.C.A. programme of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and conducted examination special programmes for 10+2 Computer Science students on Kolkata Doordarshan Kendra.
Das's academic interests lie in cryptography and network security, image processing, digital steganography, and ethical hacking. He has co-authored several research papers in these domains, such as "Data Hiding and Retrieval" with Asoke Nath and Amlan Chakraborti, presented at the IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Communication Networks (CICN 2010); "Advanced Steganographic Approach for hiding encrypted secret message in LSB, LSB+1, LSB+2, LSB+3 in non-standard cover files" with Joyshree Nath, Shalabh Agarwal, and Asoke Nath, published in the International Journal of Computer Applications (Vol. 14, No. 7, February 2011); "New Data Hiding Algorithm in MATLAB using encrypted secret message" with Agniswar Dutta et al., in Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems and Network Technologies (CSNT-2011); and "Symmetric key Cryptography using modified DJSSA symmetric key algorithm" presented at WorldComp-2011. A life member of the Computer Society of India (CSI), Calcutta Chapter, he has attended numerous workshops and seminars, including those on wireless ad hoc and sensor networks, ethical hacking, MATLAB toolboxes, e-governance, and information retrieval.
