Sanjay Putrevu, Ph.D., serves as Dean of Business and McCallum Graduate School at Bentley University since June 2022. He holds the Robert and Julia Dorn Research Professorship and is Professor of Marketing. Putrevu earned his Ph.D. in Marketing from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, and his Master of Management Sciences from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, India. Previously, he was Dean and Monte Ahuja Endowed Chair Professor at the Monte Ahuja College of Business, Cleveland State University from 2017 to 2022, where he increased the institution’s international presence through strategic partnerships, assisted with key fundraising goals, and oversaw the college’s AACSB re-accreditation. Before that, he served as Dean and Professor at the University of Wyoming College of Business. He also held the positions of Associate Dean and Chair of Marketing at the School of Business, University at Albany, SUNY, along with faculty roles at Brock University and Bryant University.
A nationally recognized scholar in marketing, Putrevu’s research focuses on advertising, consumer behavior, international marketing, and retailing, with over 6,000 citations on Google Scholar. His influential publications include “Comparative and noncomparative advertising: Attitudinal effects under cognitive and affective involvement conditions” (Journal of Advertising, 1994, with K.R. Lord; 1,164 citations), “Exploring the origins and information processing differences between men and women: Implications for advertisers” (Academy of Marketing Science Review, 2001; 610 citations), “A proposed model of online consumer behavior: Assessing the role of gender” (Journal of Business Research, 2010; 451 citations), “The effects of counterfeiting on consumer search” (Journal of Consumer Behaviour, 2006; 407 citations), and “A model of search behavior with an application to grocery shopping” (Journal of Retailing, 1997; 331 citations). Over his career, he has received several teaching, research, and service awards. Putrevu has led capital campaigns, introduced innovative programs, secured multiple AACSB reaccreditations, developed international partnerships, and established new centers of excellence, spearheading initiatives to enhance academic excellence, student success, and community engagement.
