Sandi Smith-Andrews is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Tennessee Technological University’s College of Education, with 23 years of service as recognized in the Spring 2025 University Faculty Meeting. Her professional expertise, as outlined in the College of Education Faculty Areas of Expertise directories (2021 and 2024), includes educational technology, online learning, remote learning, immersive technologies, internet applications, leadership and shared governance, teaching and learning with technology, EdTech teacher preparation, e-learning and distance education, STEM and STEAM education, service learning, and adult education.
Smith-Andrews has presented scholarly work on online education, such as 'Confessions of an Online Teacher: Lessons and Tips for Success' in 2020 co-authored with Haylee Layne, and 'Teaching Online is NOT the Same! Words of Wisdom from an Online Teacher' in 2021. She was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award for Professional Service in 2018-2019, highlighting her continued service trips to impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic to provide students with hands-on service learning experiences and model servant leadership. As co-sponsor of the Rotaract Club and president-elect of the Faculty Senate at that time, her commitment to service was further evidenced. In 2021-2022, she received the Commission on the Status of Women Excellence Award.
Throughout her career, Smith-Andrews has demonstrated substantial leadership in university governance. She has chaired the University Assembly, served on the Administrative Council, participated in Faculty Senate business meetings, acted as Interim Chair of the Faculty Affairs Committee, and served as President of the Tennessee University Faculty Senates (TUFS). Additionally, she advises the Saudi Club and Rotaract Club, fostering student engagement in global and service-oriented activities within the field of Education.
